In the heart of Beed district, Maharashtra, a remarkable story of resilience and aspiration began to take shape. Ramdas Hemraj Marbade, who once helped his parents run a roadside pani puri stall, is now an engineer at the prestigious Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), part of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Born to a humble street food vendor family, Ramdas balanced school with long hours at the stall. He began his academic journey at Zilla Parishad School and pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering from Government Polytechnic, Beed. Through determination, part-time jobs, and scholarships, he earned his engineering degree from Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad.
“I didn’t have the luxury to fail,” Ramdas shared. His perseverance paid off in 2023 when he secured a technical role at ISRO, working in mechanical systems that support India’s satellite and launch vehicle missions.
More than a personal victory, his story highlights the power of public education and the importance of supporting first-generation learners. Ramdas now mentors youth in his village, encouraging them to aim higher. “I want others to believe they can do it too—and go even further.”
