Perplexity AI to Launch Search Engine on WhatsApp as AI Race Intensifies

Aravind Srinivas-led Perplexity AI is accelerating its innovation streak by planning to bring its AI-powered search engine directly to WhatsApp, marking another major step in integrating AI with personal messaging apps. The announcement comes just after Perplexity launched on Telegram, allowing users to access its capabilities even in group chats.

This move aligns with a growing trend among AI firms to expand into widely-used chat platforms. Recently, Elon Musk’s xAI also introduced its chatbot Grok to Telegram for paying users. Meta has already integrated Meta AI across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, while ChatGPT has long been accessible on WhatsApp through third-party tools.

Perplexity AI stands out as an AI-powered search engine that delivers direct, accurate answers by leveraging multiple foundation models. Initially one of the first to merge AI with search, Perplexity’s pioneering approach prompted tech giants like Google and OpenAI to follow suit.

Currently available via its website and mobile app, Perplexity offers advanced features under a Pro subscription.

With recent developments including OpenAI’s o3-Mini model, Grok 3’s free access, and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro launch, the AI arms race is heating up. Perplexity’s expansion into messaging apps suggests this could be the next battleground in AI innovation.
