The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, is setting up a dedicated Centre of Excellence (CoE) to enhance project financing solutions for emerging industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), e-commerce, and fintech. According to reports, the new unit is expected to become operational within a year and will be staffed by specialized professionals, working under the guidance of an external consultant.
This strategic initiative marks a significant shift in SBI’s project finance strategy, which has traditionally focused on large infrastructure projects. As India prioritizes technology-driven sectors and renewable energy, SBI aims to expand its lending portfolio to support innovation, sustainability, and economic growth.
