India’s aviation industry is leading the charge in sustainability, with 73 airports transitioning to 100% green energy since 2014. As passenger traffic surges, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has focused on reducing carbon footprints, achieving carbon neutrality, and setting net zero carbon emissions targets at airports.
Key efforts include the installation of solar power plants by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the adoption of renewable energy through open access. Additionally, 12 new Greenfield airports have been developed, alongside 48 airports and airstrips constructed by AAI, all incorporating eco-friendly designs.
Prominent airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have earned Level 4+ carbon-neutral certifications from the Airports Council International (ACI), setting an example for global sustainability in aviation.
