Apple Joins Forces with Tata to Overhaul iPhone and MacBook Repairs in India

In a significant development for India’s tech ecosystem, Apple has entrusted Tata Group with managing its iPhone and MacBook after-sales repair services in the country. This marks a strategic pivot from its earlier service partner, Wistron, and makes Tata the central player in Apple’s India operations—spanning both manufacturing and repairs.

The repairs will be carried out at Tata’s facility in Karnataka, a move that complements its existing operations across three iPhone manufacturing units. By consolidating assembly and after-sales service under one domestic partner, Apple is streamlining its supply chain and customer support infrastructure in India.

This partnership comes as Apple strengthens its “China-plus-one” strategy, positioning India as a full-stack hub for production, service, and future growth. In 2023 alone, Apple sold around 11 million iPhones in India—a steep climb from a 1% market share just three years ago.

The collaboration also sets the stage for refurbished Apple products to enter the Indian market, pending regulatory approval, creating new avenues for affordability and sustainability.

Beyond improving service turnaround times and enhancing customer experience, this move boosts local employment, skill development, and India’s electronics infrastructure.
