Tuhin Kanta Pandey has officially assumed the role of Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), marking a significant leadership transition at the country’s capital markets regulator. His appointment is expected to drive regulatory enhancements, strengthen investor protection, and ensure market stability.
A 1987-batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, Pandey brings extensive experience in financial governance and economic policy. Before joining SEBI, he served as Finance Secretary and Secretary in the Department of Revenue, playing a key role in financial sector reforms. He also led major disinvestment initiatives at the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and contributed to economic restructuring at the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE).
Pandey holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Punjab University and an MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK. With his expertise in capital markets and regulatory affairs, he is expected to enhance market transparency and reinforce the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s role in ensuring a stable and well-regulated financial ecosystem.
