India Unveils PARAM Rudra Supercomputers for Climate Research

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched three cutting-edge PARAM Rudra supercomputers, installed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata, as part of the National Supercomputing Mission. These state-of-the-art systems, developed at a cost of ₹130 crore, will enhance India’s capabilities in weather and climate research, crucial for addressing environmental challenges.

During the launch, Modi emphasized the need for technological advancements to benefit all sectors of society, particularly underprivileged communities. He highlighted India’s progress in quantum computing and its integration into industries such as IT, manufacturing, and startups. Additionally, Modi inaugurated a ₹850 crore High-Performance Computing system dedicated to climate research.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the country’s strides in space exploration, with plans to establish an Indian space station by 2035 under Mission Gaganyaan. The launch of these supercomputers is a significant step toward boosting India’s research capabilities and promoting self-reliance in science and technology, with a strong focus on real-world applications.
