RVNL to Invest Over ₹1,500 Crore in 300 MW Hybrid Renewable Energy Project to Power Indian Railways

Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, is planning a 300 MW hybrid renewable energy project combining solar, wind, and storage capacities. The initiative aims to strengthen the clean energy portfolio of Indian Railways and support its goal of sourcing 15–20% of power from green energy.

According to Director (Operations) M P Singh, RVNL is in active discussions with the Ministry of Railways. The hybrid project—estimated to cost over ₹1,500 crore—will focus on peak power supply and may be located across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Karnataka. RVNL will handle infrastructure and transmission, while a partner company will provide technology and solar expertise.

RVNL also has an active joint venture with Jakson Green Pvt Ltd, involved in international projects in Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and Tanzania. Domestically, the PSU is working on key railway lines to improve coal transport efficiency, including the 290 km Sonnagar–Patratu line and the Angul–Sukhinda corridor in Odisha.

Internationally, RVNL is preparing a ₹20,000 crore, 280 km coastal freight rail project in Peru, with expected work commencement in 2026. It is also bidding on infrastructure projects in Turkey, Albania, and Africa.
