India’s largest power utility, NTPC Ltd, has signed a strategic agreement with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to develop a comprehensive energy transition roadmap. The initiative aims to align NTPC’s clean energy goals with India’s broader energy security, economic development priorities, and net-zero commitments.
SEforALL, an international organization partnered with the United Nations, will support NTPC in designing a roadmap that models multiple scenarios across short-, mid-, and long-term timeframes. The roadmap will estimate investment needs, identify diversification opportunities, and assess the socio-economic benefits of shifting to a cleaner energy system.
NTPC is already active in the energy transition domain through its green energy arm, NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL). The company is engaged in pioneering projects such as green hydrogen R&D, floating solar PV systems, battery energy storage, pumped hydro storage, and carbon capture technologies. NTPC aims to install 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
Gurdeep Singh, CMD of NTPC, emphasized the company’s commitment to a data- and technology-driven energy strategy that ensures energy security and environmental responsibility. SEforALL CEO Damilola Ogunbiyi lauded India’s climate leadership and NTPC’s move from commitment to action.
This collaboration marks a critical step in India’s decarbonization journey and supports global sustainable energy goals.
