Elon Musk’s Starlink Nears Final Approval for Indian Operations

Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture, Starlink, backed by SpaceX, is set to launch in India with monthly plans starting at just $10 (₹850)—a game changer in a price-sensitive market.

Using a constellation of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, Starlink aims to bring high-speed internet to underserved and rural regions, addressing one of India’s most critical digital gaps. The Department of Telecommunications has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI), moving Starlink one step closer to full-scale operations.

The initial phase will cover 30,000 to 50,000 users, focusing on urban centers for testing, with bandwidth ranging from 600 to 700 Gbps. By 2027, the goal is to expand to 3 Tbps—serving millions across India.

Early promotional offers and affordable pricing are expected to attract users in regions with little or no reliable internet. This isn’t just a tech milestone—it’s a potential digital revolution for Bharat.
