Can This Bengaluru Startup Disrupt the Global Semiconductor Market? All Signs Point to a Promising Tech Breakthrough

In a space dominated by global giants, one Bengaluru-based startup, Calligo Technologies, is quietly making waves with a revolutionary approach to chip design—and it’s just raised $1.1 million in pre-Series A funding led by Seafund and Artha Venture Fund.

At the heart of Calligo’s innovation is POSIT, a next-gen number representation technique that promises to outperform traditional floating-point systems. By enabling greater accuracy, energy efficiency, and a wider dynamic range—all with fewer computing bits—Calligo’s POSIT-based chip could be a game-changer for AI, big data, and high-performance computing (HPC).

The company, founded by Anantha Kinnal and Rajaraman Subramanian, has already shipped version 1.0 of its chip and adapted RISC-V compilers to support POSIT without requiring any source-code changes. Now, Calligo is focused on scaling development of version 2.0 of its silicon chip, expanding its tech team, and forging partnerships with OEMs and system integrators.

With global compute needs soaring, Calligo’s unique innovation might just be India’s ticket to the semiconductor big leagues.
