Bengaluru-based product designer Jyothish VM has developed NammaKasa, an innovative civic reporting platform, in just two days using open-source tools and a minimal investment of Rs 3,000 for the domain. Within 72 hours of launch, the platform recorded over 200 real-time reports related to garbage and infrastructure issues across Bengaluru.
NammaKasa enables citizens to report civic problems anonymously without requiring account creation or phone number verification, making participation seamless and accessible. Each complaint is mapped to the respective municipal ward and highlights the responsible MLA and MP, promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
Jyothish leveraged advanced tools such as Anthropic’s Claude for development, along with React and Vite for the frontend, Supabase for backend data management, and OpenStreetMap for mapping ward boundaries.
Positioning NammaKasa as a purely civic initiative, he has declined monetary offers and plans to enhance the platform with automated reporting to BBMP and social media integrations for real-time escalation.
