Google Gemini Now Lets You Build Your Own AI Assistant in Minutes AI News

Google has rolled out a powerful new feature within its Gemini platform, giving users the ability to create custom AI assistants called “Gems”, without writing any code. The initiative is designed to make AI more personal, accessible, and integrated into daily workflows, with a setup process that takes less than five minutes.

Users can get started by visiting gemini.google.com, navigating to the Gem Manager, and clicking “New Gem.” Each Gem can be personalized with a name and clear instructions defining what it should do and how it should behave. Google also provides a “Magic Pencil” tool to polish or improve prompts automatically, making customization easier.

To enhance performance, users can upload up to 10 PDFs or images in the Knowledge section, enabling the assistant to reference personal documents for contextual answers. These files can be updated, removed, or replaced anytime. Before launching, a built-in preview allows users to test responses and fine-tune behavior.

Once live, Gems can work inside Gemini or seamlessly integrate with Google Workspace apps like Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Drive helping with writing, planning, coding, or research tasks. Alongside custom assistants, Google is also offering ready-made Gems such as Brainstormer, Career Guide, and Coding Partner to showcase possibilities.

This move underscores Google’s strategy to democratize AI creation and strengthen its presence in productivity tools, empowering users to bring AI closer to their everyday work and creativity.
