Backbase expands HITEC City facility to support AI and banking technology development

Backbase expands HITEC City facility to support AI and banking technology development GCC

Backbase India has grown from fewer than 50 engineers in 2020 to more than 600 employees today, making Hyderabad its largest engineering hub outside Amsterdam. The expanded centre will support teams working across artificial intelligence, data, user experience (UX), full-stack engineering and product development.

Jouk Pleiter, Founder and CEO of Backbase, highlighted the importance of accountability in banking AI, noting that while banks can access AI models, they need robust controls to remain accountable for the actions of AI agents.

Surabhi Sharma, Site Leader at Backbase India, attributed the company’s tenfold growth over five years to the talent available in Hyderabad and said the new facility would provide room for further team expansion.

The investment reinforces Hyderabad’s position as a growing hub for global technology and financial services innovation.
