Tamil Nadu Launches India’s First Deeptech Startup Policy, Sets National Benchmark for Innovation Deeptech

In a significant boost to India’s innovation ecosystem, Tamil Nadu has unveiled the country’s first dedicated Deeptech Startup Policy, positioning the State as a frontrunner in science-led entrepreneurship. The Tamil Nadu Deep-Tech Startup Policy 2025–26 is designed to convert cutting-edge research into scalable, commercially viable solutions, strengthening Tamil Nadu’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for frontier technologies.

The policy reflects a strong financial and strategic commitment, with ₹100 crore allocated to support 100 deeptech startups. It focuses on long-gestation, science-driven innovations and offers structured support across funding, infrastructure, mentorship, and industry partnerships. Priority sectors under the policy include Artificial Intelligence, advanced computing, semiconductors, biotechnology, space technologies, and clean energy, enabling the creation of high-value intellectual property and globally competitive enterprises.

The policy was formally launched by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin at the fourth edition of Umagine, Tamil Nadu’s flagship technology conference held in Chennai. The event also saw major investment announcements, including ₹5,000 crore from Better Compute Works, ₹3,600 crore from Eros GenAI, and ₹100 crore from Phantom Digital Effects, collectively generating thousands of jobs.

Further strengthening global exposure, the State, through StartupTN and the Umagine DX initiative, enabled startups to showcase innovations and pitch to international investors in Dubai, Singapore, and Sharjah, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s growing stature as a global innovation destination.
