Pune-based deep-tech XR and AI wearables company, QWR Interactive Solutions, has partnered with Kaynes Technology India Limited to establish India’s first integrated hub for waveguide and XR device manufacturing. The collaboration will focus on designing and producing advanced AR/VR headsets and AI-powered smart glasses domestically, cutting import dependence by up to 50% and generating over 1,000 skilled jobs by 2027.
Under the agreement, QWR will serve as the independent design house and original design manufacturer, contributing intellectual property, product designs, and calibration protocols. “With Kaynes, we’re building deep-tech infrastructure that fuses design, waveguides, and device manufacturing – giving India full-stack ownership of the XR value chain,” said Suraj Aiar, founder and CEO of QWR.
The new facility near Mysore will feature a state-of-the-art waveguide factory with high cleanroom standards, along with assembly, testing, marking, and packaging units. Over the next 16 months, QWR aims to raise localisation from 25% to 80–85%, supported by technology transfer and new tooling capabilities.
Himanshu Verma, head of AI XR business at Kaynes Technology, added, “This collaboration enables global-grade hardware to be built in India while training the next generation of engineers and technicians.” The initiative positions India as a global XR innovation hub, starting with AR/VR headsets and expanding into enterprise, defence, education, and industrial applications.
