NTT DATA Plans $6.3 Billion Data Centre for Anthropic in Japan AI

The proposed facility would have a power intake capacity of up to 500 megawatts, making it a major infrastructure investment to support Anthropic’s growing computing requirements. If completed as planned, it would become Anthropic’s first dedicated data centre in Japan, with partial operations expected to begin as early as 2028.

According to the report, NTT DATA and Anthropic are targeting an agreement by the end of fiscal 2026, which concludes on March 31, 2027. NTT declined to comment, while NTT Group was not immediately available for comment.

The development comes as AI companies worldwide accelerate investments in data centres and computing infrastructure to meet rising demand for advanced AI models and services. Japan’s proposed facility could strengthen regional computing capacity as technology companies expand their AI infrastructure footprint across Asia.
