Telangana is strengthening its position as a major data centre and digital infrastructure hub, with the state targeting 5 GW of data centre capacity by 2029 and around $30 billion in potential investment across the AI and digital infrastructure ecosystem.
The announcement comes as Microsoft opened its India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad on September 24, marking the company’s fourth cloud region in India. The new cloud region is expected to support growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and enterprise digital services.
Telangana currently has more than 2.5 GW of data centre capacity operational or under development, providing a strong foundation for its longer-term expansion plans.
Telangana IT Minister Sridhar Babu Duddilla said the state aims to reach 5 GW of data centre capacity by 2029 while attracting approximately $30 billion in investment.
The expansion highlights Hyderabad’s growing role in India’s AI, cloud and data centre ecosystem, while strengthening the state’s digital infrastructure ambitions.
