Akamai Technologies has entered into a seven-year, $11.6 billion agreement with Anthropic to support the AI company’s expanding cloud infrastructure requirements, marking a significant commitment to the infrastructure powering next-generation artificial intelligence.
Under the agreement, the deal could potentially expand by an additional $9 billion, taking the total possible commitment to nearly $20 billion over the term of the partnership.
As part of the arrangement, Akamai has also issued Anthropic a warrant for up to 5% of Akamai’s stock. Approximately 2% of the warrant is expected to vest in connection with the initial commitment.
Akamai co-founder and CEO Dr. Tom Leighton said Anthropic is advancing the AI revolution and that Akamai is pleased to have its infrastructure capabilities selected to support AI at scale.
The agreement highlights the growing demand for AI computing, cloud infrastructure and high-performance digital platforms as AI companies expand their operations.
