OpenAI has unveiled a major initiative for Indian users, offering free access to ChatGPT Go for one year beginning November 4, coinciding with the company’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru.
Launched in August, ChatGPT Go is designed to make advanced AI more accessible, featuring higher message limits, enhanced image generation capabilities, and extended memory powered by GPT-5. The free access offer will be available to all users in India who sign up during the promotional period, marking one of OpenAI’s most extensive user engagement programs to date.
Nick Turley, VP and Head of ChatGPT, emphasized that the initiative aims to empower more people across India to experience the benefits of generative AI for learning, creativity, and productivity.
India, already ChatGPT’s second-largest and fastest-growing market, witnessed a surge in paid subscriptions following the Go version’s global rollout. Existing subscribers in India will also be eligible for the complimentary 12-month plan.
OpenAI stated that the move supports the government’s IndiaAI Mission, fostering digital inclusion through strategic collaborations with educational institutions and civil society organizations to broaden AI accessibility.
