Microsoft Launches Fourth India Cloud Region in Hyderabad

Microsoft has formally launched its fourth cloud region in India, with the new India South Central region in Hyderabad strengthening the company’s cloud and AI infrastructure footprint in the country.

The Hyderabad region became generally available on August 6 and joins Microsoft’s existing cloud regions in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. The expansion is part of Microsoft’s $20.5 billion investment commitment towards India’s digital and AI infrastructure.

According to Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok, the Hyderabad facility uses effectively zero water for cooling, relying on air-cooled chillers instead of conventional water-based cooling systems.

Chandok said India currently has around 2 GW of data centre capacity, which could increase to 6–7 GW by 2035, with more than $100 billion in investments committed.

Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith said the new region will provide organisations with greater capacity, resilience and choice.

India’s public cloud spending is forecast to reach $45.7 billion by 2030, according to IDC.
