Industry Stalwart Shankar Sarma Appointed as Additional Commissioner of Customs at IGI Airport, New Delhi Leadership

Shankar Sarma has assumed charge as Additional Commissioner of Customs at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, marking another significant milestone in his distinguished career in public administration and economic governance.

A seasoned Indian Revenue Service officer, Sarma brings exemplary experience across customs, taxation, intelligence, and policy-making. Prior to this appointment, he served as Additional Commissioner of Customs and held key leadership roles including Director at the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and senior positions within the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI).

His academic credentials include a Master’s in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, along with specialized training in public policy, public finance, international trade, taxation, wildlife protection law, forensic science, and security operations from leading institutions in India and abroad.

Before joining government service, Sarma gained valuable experience in research and analytics with NCAER, Genpact, and Korea Exchange Bank. His diverse expertise is expected to further strengthen customs administration and trade facilitation at one of India’s busiest international gateways.
