IIT Patna Powers Bihar’s Digital Leap with Launch of First Param Rudra Supercomputer Deeptech

Bihar has taken a significant stride in advanced technology and research with the launch of the first Param Rudra supercomputer at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). This development marks a major milestone for the state, providing high-performance computing capabilities to support cutting-edge research and innovation.

Describing the launch as a landmark moment, IIT Patna Director Prof. T.N. Singh said the facility will enable students, faculty, and researchers to tackle complex computational challenges across multiple disciplines, including artificial intelligence, data science, quantum computing, and advanced simulations. The supercomputer is expected to significantly enhance research productivity and learning outcomes at the institute.

The initiative was inaugurated by Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), who highlighted that 37 supercomputers with a combined capacity of 39 PetaFlops have been deployed nationwide, with more on the way as India strengthens its indigenous supercomputing ecosystem.

According to IIT Patna, the Param Rudra facility will support around 60 faculty members and 400 students across 10 departments, making it the first Param Rudra supercomputer established in any institute or government organization in Bihar. The launch positions IIT Patna as a regional hub for high-performance computing, research, and digital innovation, driving Bihar’s digital transformation forward.
