Herbalife International India Pvt Ltd has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology Madras to establish India’s first Plant Cell Fermentation Technology Centre at the IITM Research Park. The Herbalife–IIT Madras Centre of Excellence (CoE), set to begin operations in June 2026, aims to advance sustainable, plant-based healthcare solutions using indigenous and cost-effective technologies.
Funded through Herbalife’s CSR initiative, this collaboration marks Phase 2 of their partnership and focuses on research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in plant cell fermentation. The centre will enable scalable production of herbal biomass, enriched extracts, and high-value phytochemicals by integrating advanced cultivation systems with cutting-edge processing and metabolomics platforms.
The CoE is expected to drive industry-academia collaboration, support technology transfer, and foster entrepreneurship while building capabilities in sustainable bio-manufacturing. It will benefit students, researchers, and industry professionals through skill development and innovation opportunities.
This initiative strengthens India’s position in bio-based manufacturing and sustainable health solutions.
