BharatGen Partners with IBM to Advance India’s Large Language Model Initiatives Energy

BharatGen, India’s indigenous large language model (LLM), is being developed under the Department of Science and Technology’s National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (#NMICPS) to address the diverse needs of the nation. Designed for local relevance, BharatGen aims to empower sectors ranging from agriculture and banking to education and beyond.

In a strategic move to accelerate innovation, BharatGen is collaborating with IBM to co-develop scalable architectures, transformative applications, and advanced AI solutions tailored for India. This partnership brings together IBM’s global expertise and the BharatGen consortium’s domain knowledge to create practical, inclusive, and responsible AI applications across industries.

The MoU exchange event was attended by Dr. Amit Singhee, Director, IBM Research; Mr. Sandip Patel, MD, IBM India & South Asia; Dr. Jaikrishnan Hari, Senior Manager – Business Development, IBM Research; Mr. Ramesh Karwani, Head – Technology Policy, IBM India; Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, Principal Investigator, BharatGen & Professor, CSE, IIT Bombay; Prof. Aditya Maheshwari, IIM Indore; and Dr. Ekta Kapoor, Head FFT Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, among others.

This collaboration reinforces India’s commitment to responsible, inclusive, and homegrown AI, building solutions that empower communities, industries, and citizens alike, and positions the country as a global leader in ethical and impactful AI innovation.
