Alphabet Inc. has announced plans to acquire Intersect for $4.75 billion, reinforcing Google’s strategy to tightly integrate large-scale data centre expansion with power generation infrastructure. The move brings a long-standing partner closer to Google as it seeks to accelerate the activation of new data centres while simultaneously building reliable, scalable energy capacity.
The acquisition builds on an existing collaboration between Google and Intersect and is expected to unlock multiple gigawatts of energy and data centre projects already in advanced stages of development. By aligning infrastructure and energy planning, Alphabet aims to operate more nimbly and reimagine next-generation energy solutions that support growing AI, cloud, and digital workloads.
Commenting on the development, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said the partnership will help expand capacity and strengthen U.S. innovation and leadership. Intersect will continue to operate independently under CEO Sheldon Kimber, while working closely with Google’s technical infrastructure teams, including on a co-located data centre project in Haskell County, Texas.
The deal highlights Alphabet’s long-term focus on sustainable, resilient infrastructure to support future digital growth.
