Air India has issued an advisory to passengers flying from India to London Heathrow, urging them to complete web check-in before arriving at airports, after a cyberattack on a third-party service provider disrupted check-in and boarding systems across major European airports.
The airline said in its statement: “A third-party passenger system disruption at Heathrow may cause delays in the check-in process. Our ground teams in London are working to minimize inconvenience. Passengers are advised to complete their web check-in before arriving at the airport to help ensure a smooth experience.”
The cyberattack affected automated systems, forcing airports to rely on manual check-in and boarding processes. According to Eurocontrol, airlines were asked to cancel up to half their flights between 4:00 am GMT Saturday and 2:00 am GMT Sunday.
Brussels Airport confirmed the disruption led to at least four cancelled flights, while Berlin and Heathrow airports also reported delays. The affected system is provided by Collins Aerospace, a global supplier of check-in and boarding technologies.
While some airlines, including EasyJet, stated their schedules were not significantly impacted, passengers across Europe faced delays and cancellations. The incident highlights the growing risks of cybersecurity threats to global aviation infrastructure.
