AMD (AMD) has crossed the $1 trillion market capitalisation milestone for the first time, driven by a sharp rise in investor confidence in its expanding artificial intelligence business.
AMD shares surged 9.6% to a record $613.31, lifting the stock’s gains in 2026 to approximately 185%. The rally reflects growing expectations that AMD can expand beyond individual semiconductor products and compete across complete AI computing systems.
The milestone makes AMD the fourth US chipmaker to reach a $1 trillion valuation. The company is also gaining ground in CPUs used alongside GPUs for AI inference workloads, while strengthening its position as NVIDIA’s closest competitor in the GPU market.
However, AMD’s rapid share-price appreciation has pushed its valuation higher. The company was trading at around 41 times its 12-month forward earnings, compared with NVIDIA’s recent multiple of 16.3 times.
The milestone highlights the intensifying competition in the global AI semiconductor market as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow.
