SpeakX.ai Bags ₹142 Crore to Expand Regional Reach and Strengthen AI Capabilities Startup Stories

SpeakX.ai, an AI-driven English learning startup, has raised $16 million (₹142 crore) in a funding round led by WestBridge Capital, with participation from Goodwater Capital and existing investor Elevation Capital. The round also saw backing from prominent angels including Shyamal Anadkat (OpenAI) and Ronnie Screwvala (upGrad).

Founded by Arpit Mittal, SpeakX pivoted in 2023 from its earlier avatar, YellowClass, to focus on AI-powered spoken English learning. The fresh capital will be used to strengthen its AI and speech-recognition technology, expand into regional languages, and scale sustainably.

SpeakX currently serves over 10 million users and 200,000 paying subscribers, clocking ₹5 crore in monthly revenue and ₹1.5 crore in profit—a rare feat in India’s recovering edtech sector. Mittal said that 80% of the funds will go towards AI development, while the rest will support regional expansion into Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Marathi markets.

Investors see SpeakX as a model of profitable, AI-first education innovation, positioning it to achieve ₹100 crore annual EBITDA by 2026.
