Muse Wearables, an IIT-Madras-founded startup, has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch India’s first wearable payments ecosystem, powered by Muse Wallet and RuPay. This partnership marks a major milestone in India’s fintech innovation, enabling users to make instant, secure, and contactless payments using Muse’s Smart Ring ‘Ring One’; without the need for a phone, card, or wallet.
Already live in 40+ countries and supporting 600 banks, Muse Wallet now brings its secure payment platform to India via RuPay, aiming to democratize digital payments for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The platform converts any RuPay credit or debit card into a digital token stored in a Secure Element (SE) chip, the same grade of security used in bank cards and passports. This ensures full isolation of sensitive data from mobile devices, setting a new benchmark in wearable payment security.
Payments work only when the ring is worn, and deactivation occurs instantly upon removal, ensuring safety and convenience. Muse is onboarding banks nationwide to scale access rapidly.
