Former United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has joined Microsoft and Anthropic as a senior adviser, taking on part-time roles that will see him contribute to shaping global AI strategy and technology governance. Sunak will work closely with senior leadership at both firms, offering high-level strategic perspectives on how macroeconomic and geopolitical trends intersect with emerging technologies.
According to the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA), Sunak’s roles are fully compliant with government rules and are limited to internal strategic guidance — with no involvement in UK policy or lobbying. He plans to donate all earnings from these appointments to The Richmond Project, a charity he founded to enhance numeracy skills across age groups.
Sunak, who served as Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024, championed AI safety and governance initiatives, including the launch of the AI Safety Institute and the AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park. His expertise is expected to help Microsoft and Anthropic advance responsible AI development globally.
Anthropic, backed by Google and Amazon, recently announced expansion plans in Bengaluru, Dublin, and Zurich, reinforcing its commitment to ethical AI innovation.
