Coratia Technologies Raises Rs 5 Crore from Piper Serica to Advance India’s Underwater Robotics Capabilities Startup Stories

Odisha-based deeptech startup Coratia Technologies has secured Rs 5 crore in a fresh funding round led by Piper Serica Angel Fund, strengthening its mission to build world-class autonomous underwater robotics systems from India. The new capital will be directed towards bolstering in-house R&D, expanding manufacturing capacity, upgrading product lines, and accelerating the company’s international expansion.

Founded in 2021 by Debendra Pradhan and Biswajit Swain, Coratia specializes in advanced autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) for defence and industrial applications. Its flagship systems, Jalasimha, Jaladuta, Oceanus, and Navya; support critical subsea inspections, surveillance, analytics, and maintenance across vital underwater infrastructure.

Coratia is incubated at NIT Rourkela FTBI and STPI Bhubaneswar Electropreneur Park, with backing from Startup Odisha and i-Hub Gujarat. The startup has previously attracted investment from deeptech-focused funds MGF Kavachh and Pontaq Ventures, which together invested over Rs 17 crore in July 2025 to advance India’s strategic autonomy in underwater robotics. The company also gained national visibility on Shark Tank India Season 3, where founder duo received an offer from OYO’s Ritesh Agarwal.

Commenting on the milestone, CEO Debendra Pradhan highlighted Coratia’s vision to transform underwater robotics and build a global supply chain from India. CTO Biswajit Swain emphasized the company’s focus on reliability and operational excellence under extreme environments. Ajay Modi of Piper Serica noted Coratia’s strong technological moat and its potential for rapid growth driven by recent defence wins.
