Birla AI Labs, the AI initiative and venture studio under the Aditya Birla Group, has launched Yug-1, its first time series foundation model designed to forecast outcomes, identify patterns and detect anomalies across interconnected datasets.
The company said its frontier research team developed Yug-1 from training to deployment in under six months. The model is now available on GitHub and Hugging Face, enabling access for developers and researchers.
Ananya Birla, Founder and Chairperson of Birla AI Labs, said Yug-1 outperformed other first-generation time series foundation models on the GiftEval benchmark and delivered competitive results against newer-generation models. The company describes it as Asia’s first time series foundation model built for real-world applications.
Unlike language models focused on text, Yug-1 targets temporal data across business-critical areas, including demand and supply, equipment performance, financial signals and infrastructure usage.
Birla AI Labs plans to present Yug-1 at NeurIPS 2026 and engage with universities and research laboratories globally, advancing research into practical AI applications.
