Zscaler, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZS), a global leader in cloud security, has announced the acquisition of SquareX to expand its Zero Trust browser security capabilities for the AI-driven enterprise era. The acquisition, completed on February 5, 2026, strengthens Zscaler’s ability to secure users across any browser and any device without relying on third-party enterprise browsers.
As organizations increasingly operate across unmanaged and BYOD environments, legacy technologies such as VPNs and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) continue to expose enterprises to security risks and operational complexity. Zscaler previously disrupted this model with Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), enabling secure, Zero Trust access without traditional VPNs.
With SquareX, Zscaler now extends Zero Trust protections directly into standard browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge through lightweight extensions. This approach delivers robust security controls, protects data and AI interactions, and eliminates the need for full agents or separate browsers—while preserving user productivity.
Zscaler CEO Jay Chaudhry said the move reinforces the company’s Zero Trust Exchange platform, enabling enterprises to stop threats at the browser level. SquareX founder Vivek Ramachandran added that the integration empowers IT teams to replace insecure legacy access tools with precise, risk-based Zero Trust policies across SaaS and private applications.
