GitLab has announced new capabilities for its governed software factory, designed to help enterprises accelerate AI-driven software development while strengthening security, governance and cost control.
The updates connect agentic workflows, software supply chain security and AI analytics within a unified platform. GitLab reported a 200% year-over-year increase in active users of agentic software development over the past three months, alongside 100% growth in secure repositories.
Key additions include GitLab Artifact Central, which centralises packages and containers; GitLab Dependency Firewall, which checks packages against security and compliance policies; and GitLab Secrets Manager, which protects credentials used in software delivery.
GitLab Orbit, its AI context solution, has supported more than 280,000 queries from coding agents across over 3,500 organisations. The company says it enables agents to complete tasks with up to 45 times fewer retries and 4.5 times fewer tokens.
“GitLab brings together the foundational building blocks for a governed software factory,” said Manav Khurana, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at GitLab, highlighting the importance of combining AI workflows, security and governance.
