Netrasemi to Tape Out 12 nm AI Chips This Year, Backed by MeitY

Netrasemi, a startup from Thiruvananthapuram, is set to tape out two 12 nm AI chips this year, marking a significant milestone in India's semiconductor industry. Backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Netrasemi has already developed three AI chips for edge applications and plans to introduce Netra A4000, Netra A2000, and Netra R1000 to the market.

The Netra A4000 is a high-performance chip designed for edge servers and smart systems, delivering between 32 and 100 TOPS (trillion operations per second). The Netra A2000 and Netra R1000 cater to surveillance and smart home applications, offering 4 TOPS and 2 TOPS, respectively.

Netrasemi's chips are being fabricated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and are expected in production by 2025. The startup, which benefits from MeitY's Design Linked Incentive (DLI) and Chips to Startups (C2S) programs, aims to compete with established players like NVIDIA.
