Indian Government Unveils Krishi-Decision Support System for Modern Farming

The Indian government has launched the Krishi-Decision Support System (Krishi-DSS), a groundbreaking satellite-based geospatial platform aimed at transforming agricultural practices. Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Bhagirath Choudhary, introduced the platform during the National Conference on Space-Driven Solutions for Agriculture Transformation, part of the lead-up to the inaugural National Space Day on August 23, 2024.

Krishi-DSS is India’s first tailored geospatial tool for agriculture, offering real-time data on satellite imagery, weather conditions, reservoir levels, groundwater, and soil health. It provides farmers with tools for crop mapping, drought monitoring, and field parcel segmentation, promoting informed decision-making and sustainable practices.

This innovative platform promises to boost productivity and sustainability by integrating diverse data sources to optimize crop yield and manage agricultural risks. The initiative reflects the growing role of space technology in agriculture, as highlighted by Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi.
