Indian Government Launches Initiative to Empower Tribal Youth in Semiconductor Technology

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched a new project to provide semiconductor technology training to tribal students. In collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, the initiative will offer basic training to 1,500 students and advanced training to 600 students over the next three years. The program, which aims to equip tribal communities with skills essential for the electronics industry, is a significant step towards inclusivity in India's technological advancement.

Eligible students with engineering degrees can apply for the training, which will be conducted at Nano centres established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This initiative is part of a broader government effort to develop India's semiconductor ecosystem, with recent projects including the approval of semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam.

The program is the first of its kind dedicated exclusively to tribal communities, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing opportunities for marginalized groups.
