India Approves Major ₹3,300 Crore Semiconductor Unit by Kaynes Semicon in Gujar

 

The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹3,300 crore semiconductor manufacturing unit by Kaynes Semicon Pvt Ltd in Sanand, Gujarat This state-of-the-art facility is expected to produce 60 lakh chips daily, catering to sectors like automotive, industrial, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecom, and mobile phones. The initiative aligns with India’s broader “Programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem,” launched in December 2021 with a budget of ₹76,000 crore, aiming to establish India as a global semiconductor hub.

 

The Sanand plant is part of a series of semiconductor projects approved by the government. Earlier approvals include a semiconductor fab by Tata Electronics in Dholera, Gujarat, and additional facilities in Morigaon, Assam, and Sanand, Gujarat. Collectively, these projects are anticipated to attract investments nearing ₹1.5 lakh crore, with a combined production capacity of 7 crore chips per day.
