The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Persistent Systems Foundation to establish the Persistent Systems Innovation Lab for Artificial Intelligence within its Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Backed by a ₹10 crore seed contribution, the initiative aims to accelerate advanced AI research and drive translational impact across critical sectors.
Dr. Anand Deshpande engaged with scholars on the future trajectory of artificial intelligence in India, emphasizing the importance of high-quality healthcare data, responsible AI deployment, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. He underscored the growing need for adaptive thinking and “learning how to learn” in an AI-driven economy.
Deshpande also met with Director Suman Chakraborty to outline a long-term roadmap for deeper industry-academia partnerships, marking a significant step in alumni-led innovation and strengthening India’s AI research ecosystem.
