Hyundai and Kia invest in VAST Data after halving AI data storage requirements Enterprise AI

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have made a strategic investment in VAST Data, strengthening their collaboration on artificial intelligence infrastructure for autonomous driving, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and robotics.

The investment follows the successful deployment of VAST AI Operating System by 42dot, Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous mobility division and software centre. The platform consolidates previously fragmented ADAS and large language model development workloads onto a unified data infrastructure built with NVIDIA technology.

According to VAST Data, the implementation achieved a 2:1 data reduction rate across real-world sensor and video data, helping reduce storage requirements by approximately 50%. The consolidation also improved space and power efficiency, enabling capacity expansion within existing data centre constraints.

The investment builds on an established technology relationship as the automakers expand their AI development capabilities. The financial terms of the investment have not been disclosed. VAST Data was valued at US$30 billion following its Series F financing in April 2026.

Why It Matters

Autonomous driving and robotics generate enormous volumes of sensor, video and simulation data. Reducing storage requirements while consolidating AI workloads can improve infrastructure efficiency and help accelerate model development.

Hyundai and Kia’s investment highlights the strategic importance of AI data infrastructure in automotive innovation. For enterprise technology leaders, unified data platforms can help reduce duplication, optimise infrastructure utilisation and support scalable AI adoption.
