Sophont Secures $9.22M to Pioneer Multi-Modal AI for Smarter Medical Diagnosis Startup Stories

Healthcare AI just got a major boost as Sophont, founded by 22-year-old prodigy Tanishq Abraham, raised $9.22 million in seed funding to address one of medicine’s biggest challenges, fragmented data in diagnosis. The round was led by Kindred Ventures, marking one of the largest seed raises in the healthcare AI space.

Unlike most AI systems that analyze a single data source such as X-rays, pathology slides, or doctor’s notes, Sophont is building a multi-modal AI platform that fuses all streams of medical information into one cohesive system. This holistic approach aims to dramatically improve diagnostic accuracy and decision-making for hospitals, pharma companies, and healthtech innovators.

Abraham, who became the youngest biomedical engineer at 14 and earned a PhD by 19, has already made his mark in AI. He co-created DALL·E Mini, founded MedARC, and contributed to multiple deep-tech research breakthroughs, including generating chest X-rays from text and reconstructing brain images from neural signals.

With this fresh capital, Sophont plans to scale its team, accelerate R&D, and launch pilots with healthcare providers. The startup’s vision is clear: to close medicine’s biggest blind spot by unifying data for faster, smarter, and more reliable diagnoses.
