Alibaba Group is expanding its global cloud infrastructure with plans to establish new cloud regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands, while increasing capacity across existing facilities in Malaysia, Germany, the UAE, France and Hong Kong.
Announced at Alibaba’s annual conference in Hangzhou, the expansion reflects rising demand for computing infrastructure as businesses accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.
The Netherlands is expected to host the first of the newly announced European cloud regions, with the facility scheduled to open in October. Alibaba Cloud plans to subsequently establish cloud regions in Turkey and Finland over the following 12 months.
CEO Eddie Wu also outlined an ambition to exceed 20 gigawatts of global data centre capacity by 2032, highlighting the scale of Alibaba’s long-term AI infrastructure strategy.
Alongside its cloud expansion, Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu V900 AI chip and plans for an AI model with between 5 trillion and 10 trillion parameters.
The developments underline Alibaba’s broader push across cloud computing, AI models and semiconductor technology as global competition intensifies.
