Meta has introduced Aria Gen 2, its latest research-focused smart glasses designed to advance AI, robotics, and machine perception. An upgrade from Project Aria (2020), the new version features enhanced sensors, on-device AI processing, and improved usability.
Weighing just 75g, Aria Gen 2 includes an RGB camera, SLAM cameras, eye-tracking sensors, spatial microphones, and a heart rate monitor. It offers six to eight hours of battery life and integrates force-canceling open-ear speakers for real-time AI feedback. Meta’s custom chip powers SLAM, hand tracking, and speech recognition directly on the device.
Meta’s Reality Labs Research and FAIR AI Lab will use Aria Gen 2 for AI development, while academic and commercial researchers can access it through Project Aria.
Additionally, Meta is reportedly launching a standalone Meta AI app to compete with ChatGPT and Gemini, potentially with a paid subscription model. The company will also host LlamaCon, its first AI-focused developer conference, in April.
