Indian Firms Prioritise Upskilling as Demand for Next-Gen Tech Rises

Indian companies are increasingly focusing on upskilling their workforce to meet the demands of next-gen technologies. The “SkillScape 2024” report by People Matters and UNext highlights that 82% of organisations find current training programs inadequate for preparing employees for tech-driven roles.

With 55% of companies identifying data science, analytics, cybersecurity, and IoT as essential skills, the talent shortage is becoming a major hurdle. Around 72% of organisations are struggling to recruit experts in these fields, while 50% believe that emerging job roles will significantly reshape the skilling landscape.

Only 20% of firms regularly assess employee competencies, leaving many vulnerable to skill gaps. To combat this, 71% are turning to certifications from Tier-1 universities and adopting work-integrated learning programs to ensure practical skill application.

Leadership development in areas like change management and organisational agility is also a priority for 61% of companies, helping them stay competitive in a rapidly evolving tech environment.
