India to Assist Trinidad and Tobago in Developing UPI-Modeled Payments System

India’s National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is set to help Trinidad and Tobago establish a digital payments platform modeled after the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the overseas arm of NPCI, announced a partnership with Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Digital Transformation to develop a system that facilitates person-to-person and person-to-merchant transactions.

As a leading entity under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), NPCI manages UPI, which has become India’s most widely used digital payments system. NIPL, which was created to promote UPI adoption internationally, had earlier this year signed agreements to implement similar systems in Peru and Namibia.

With ongoing discussions in Africa and South America, India continues to expand its influence in global digital payments by providing scalable solutions based on UPI’s success.
