Apple to Manufacture iPhone 16 Pro Models in India

Apple is set to manufacture its high-end iPhone Pro and Pro Max models in India for the first time, marking a significant shift in its global production strategy. Foxconn Technology Group, Apple’s key manufacturing partner, will start assembling these premium devices at its Tamil Nadu factory shortly after their global launch this fall. Apple has begun training thousands of workers at the facility to produce the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, aligning production timelines closely with global debuts.

In the fiscal year ending March 2024, Apple assembled $14 billion worth of iPhones in India, representing 14% of its global output. With the production of Pro models, Apple aims to increase India’s share of its global output by 25% over the next few years. While the majority of these devices will be exported, challenges such as costly component imports and local taxes may keep prices higher in India compared to other markets.
